The Australia diabetes devices market covers continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps and their consumables, blood glucose meters and test strips, and insulin pens, syringes and needles used by people with type 1, type 2, gestational and other forms of diabetes. Much of the supply is routed through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS), which subsidises products at community pharmacies, so government listings shape what patients can afford.
In 2025, the market is valued at AUD 450.00 million in 2025 and is forecast to grow at a (CAGR) of 8.00%, reaching AUD 971.52 million by 2035. Growth is driven by more than 144,000 Australians living with type 1 diabetes, a sector request for AUD 405 million of new subsidies lodged in February 2026 and the steady shift from finger-prick testing to sensors and automated insulin delivery.

2026-2035
The Australia diabetes devices market is moving from manual testing and injections towards connected sensors and pumps. Funding rules, not consumer demand, set the pace, because subsidy decisions decide who can afford a sensor or a pump.
Three forces are shaping the market: a large and growing patient base of about 1.5 million diagnosed Australians; subsidised access that already covers continuous glucose monitoring for type 1 diabetes but not yet for most people with type 2; and the arrival of tubeless pods and 15-day sensors that raise the value of each patient.
In December 2025 the NDSS began subsidising the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor. In February 2026 diabetes organisations asked the Federal Budget for AUD 298.95 million for automated insulin delivery, and in May 2026 the government only noted wider sensor access.
The market is shifting from blood glucose meters and syringes towards sensors, pods and automated insulin delivery systems that reduce daily management effort. Continuous glucose monitors lead in value because every insulin-treated patient who qualifies for a subsidy buys sensors continuously, while insulin pumps grow fastest as funding for automated systems is debated. Type 2 diabetes expands quickest as eligibility widens, and online and direct sales gain share from pharmacy counters. New South Wales remains the largest region by patient numbers, and Queensland grows quickest on population inflow. Tighter integration between sensors and pumps, simpler wearables and any decision to widen subsidies point to a durable change in product mix rather than a short cycle, even though price scrutiny and tendering remain risks.

Subsidy Policy Sets the Growth Ceiling
Revenue is on course to more than double, from USD 450.00 million in 2025 to USD 971.52 million in 2035 at an 8.0% CAGR. Wider coverage is the main swing factor: the sector asked in February 2026 for AUD 405 million over four years, yet the May 2026 government response only noted wider sensor access.
Pumps and Type 2 Sensors Lead Growth
Continuous glucose monitors hold the largest share, but Insulin Pumps and Consumables grow at an estimated 11.8% CAGR and Type 2 Diabetes at an estimated 10.4% CAGR through 2035. Insulet confirmed in March 2025 that Omnipod 5 was available in Australia, while the NDSS added Libre 3 Plus for YpsoPump users in December 2025.
Sensor Lifespans and Pumps Reshape Spending
Fifteen-day sensors and tubeless pods raise annual value per patient, while meter and strip sales stay flat. Payers and patients are watching co-payments closely.

The Expert Market Research’s report on the Australia Diabetes Devices Market offers a detailed analysis of the market based on the following segments.
Market Breakup by Product Type
Continuous Glucose Monitors lead on value, in our estimate, because the NDSS has subsidised sensors for type 1 diabetes since Dexcom G7 listings began in March 2025 and Libre 3 Plus followed in December 2025. Insulin Pumps and Consumables grow fastest at an estimated 11.8% CAGR through 2035, as Omnipod 5 reached Australia in March 2025 and sector bids seek AUD 298.95 million for pumps. Blood Glucose Meters and Strips decline in share as sensors replace finger-pricks. Insulin Pens, Syringes and Needles grow steadily with the rising insulin-treated population, while Others cover lancets and accessories.
Market Breakup by Diabetes Type
Type 1 Diabetes leads in value, in our estimate, because more than 144,000 people have it and the subsidy covers their sensors. Type 2 Diabetes grows fastest at an estimated 10.4% CAGR through 2035, as the February 2026 submission asks for sensors for 16,000 insulin-treated people and out-of-pocket users already pay AUD 2,000 to AUD 4,000 a year. Gestational and Other Diabetes grows steadily, with pregnant women named as a priority group in the same February 2026 submissions.
Market Breakup by Distribution Channel
Community Pharmacies and NDSS Access Points lead, in our estimate, because subsidised sensors and pods are ordered there, and the NDSS confirmed ordering from 1 December 2025 for Libre 3 Plus. Hospitals and Specialist Clinics matter for initiation, as only authorised health professionals can update sensor access. Online and Direct Sales grows fastest at an estimated 10.0% CAGR through 2035, driven by subscription pump models and self-funded sensor buyers. Others include private health insurer and aged-care supply arrangements.
Market Breakup by Region
New South Wales dominates, in our estimate, as Australia's most populous state with the largest number of NDSS registrants, and it grows at an estimated 7.6% CAGR through 2035 from a mature base. Victoria follows at 7.9%, supported by a dense hospital and clinic network. Queensland is the fastest-growing region at an estimated 9.0%, on population inflow and rising type 2 prevalence. Western Australia grows at 8.6%, helped by remote-area telehealth. Others, covering the remaining states and territories, grow at 8.2%.
| CAGR 2026 to 2035, Market by Region | Growth Rate |
| New South Wales | 7.6 % |
| Victoria | 7.9 % |
| Queensland | 9.0 % |
| Western Australia | 8.6 % |
| Others (incl. South Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory) | 8.2 % |
Competition combines global sensor makers, pump specialists and established meter suppliers selling through the NDSS and pharmacies. Entry barriers include Therapeutic Goods Administration approval, NDSS listing, pump and sensor compatibility, clinic training and reimbursement negotiations with government.
Dexcom
Dexcom, headquartered in San Diego, California, makes the G7 continuous glucose monitor and the ONE+ sensor sold in Australia. The NDSS began subsidising Dexcom G7 sensors on 1 March 2025 at a AUD 11.60 co-payment per 10-day sensor. In March 2026 the limbic reported that its ONE+ sensor was part of a pending application for type 2 funding. Its Smart Basal software received United States clearance in November 2025.
Abbott
Abbott, headquartered in Abbott Park, Illinois, sells the FreeStyle Libre range in Australia through Abbott Australasia. The NDSS began subsidising the 15-day FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor on 1 December 2025 for people using the mylife YpsoPump with CamAPS FX, at AUD 17.35 per sensor. Abbott Australasia also sought type 2 funding for Libre, which the Medical Services Advisory Committee deferred, as reported in March 2026.
Insulet
Insulet, headquartered in Acton, Massachusetts, makes the tubeless Omnipod pod systems. On 18 March 2025 the company said Omnipod 5 was commercially available in Australia and works with Dexcom G6 and G7 sensors, with Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus support planned. Because pumps are largely self-funded, the sector's February 2026 request for AUD 298.95 million of pump subsidies bears directly on its Australian growth.
Medtronic
Medtronic, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, sells MiniMed insulin pumps and Guardian sensors through Medtronic Australasia. Its diabetes business MiniMed filed for a public share offering on 19 December 2025, after the separation was announced in May 2025. In December 2025 it began a United States launch of the MiniMed 780G with the Abbott-made Instinct sensor, signalling a more open sensor strategy that could widen Australian choice.
Other players operating in the Australia diabetes devices market include Ypsomed, Roche Diabetes Care, Tandem Diabetes Care, Embecta, and Ascensia Diabetes Care, alongside distributors, insulin makers supplying pens, private-label meter brands and online retailers supplying pharmacies, clinics and patients across Australia.
Competition rests on subsidy listings, device compatibility, clinician training and reliability rather than price alone, while integration between sensors and pumps decides which suppliers retain users.
