The Australia mining equipment market covers the haul trucks, excavators, loaders, blasthole drills, crushers, underground fleets, automation systems and wear parts that miners and contractors buy to extract and process ore and coal. Surface fleets dominate the Pilbara iron ore belt and the Bowen Basin coalfields, while loaders, trucks and drill rigs serve deep gold, copper and nickel mines. Explosives and contract mining services sit outside the scope.
In 2025, the market is valued at AUD 9.40 billion in 2025 and is forecast to grow at a (CAGR) of 4.60%, reaching AUD 14.74 billion by 2035. Growth is driven by A$226 billion of Western Australian mineral and petroleum sales in 2025, a decade-high A$34 billion of state mining and petroleum investment, and the rapid shift to autonomous and battery-electric fleets.

2026-2035
The Australia mining equipment market is being reshaped rather than slowed. Iron ore prices are easing, yet copper, gold and critical minerals projects are absorbing new machines, and older diesel fleets are being replaced by autonomous, electric and remotely operated equipment.
Three forces are shaping demand: record resource export earnings that fund fleet renewal, labour scarcity and safety targets that favour autonomy, and decarbonisation commitments that push buyers towards battery-electric drills and trucks. Aftermarket parts and rebuilds, tied to a very large installed fleet, provide a steady base beneath new machine orders.
In April 2025 Epiroc won its largest order ever, worth about A$350 million, from Fortescue. In March 2026 Caterpillar renewed autonomous haulage at three Fortescue operations, and in June 2026 Sandvik booked about SEK 350 million of underground equipment from Barminco.
The market is moving from conventional diesel fleets towards autonomous, remotely operated and battery-electric equipment supported by long-term service agreements. Haul trucks lead in value because each large mine runs dozens of units, while drilling and blasting rigs advance fastest as miners automate pit preparation. Copper and critical minerals outgrow iron ore and coal as electrification demand lifts new projects, and mining contractors gain share as they buy fleets for gold and base metal mines. Western Australia remains the largest region, and South Australia grows quickest on copper expansion. Local fabrication, wear-part supply and dealer support will matter as much as machine specifications, because miners now judge suppliers on uptime, emissions and safety outcomes across the full fleet life.
