The New Zealand data center networking market covers the switches, routers, optical interconnects and software-defined networking tools that link servers, storage, cloud platforms and the outside world inside colocation, hyperscale, enterprise and edge facilities. Demand reflects a small, geographically dispersed country, so spine-and-leaf Ethernet fabrics, carrier-neutral interconnection and trans-Tasman capacity matter as much as raw server counts.
In 2025, the market is valued at USD 95.00 million and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 12.00%, reaching USD 295.06 million by 2035. Growth is driven by the AWS cloud region launched in August 2025, TenPeaks Data Centres' pipeline of more than 130 MW and the 280 MW AI campus approved in Southland in March 2026.

2026-2035
The New Zealand data center networking market is moving from steady refresh cycles to capacity-led expansion. Ownership changes, a hyperscale cloud region and proposed AI campuses are lifting spending on 400G fabrics, optical links and automation, even as electricity supply and consenting remain open questions.
Three forces shape demand: sovereign in-country hosting, which keeps workloads with local operators; AI-ready builds with liquid cooling and dense GPU clusters; and carrier-neutral interconnection, as Data Vault's Grafton site reaches about 70 autonomous systems and three internet exchanges.
In August 2025 AWS launched its New Zealand region with a commitment above NZ$7.5 billion. Spark completed the sale of 75% of its data center business in February 2026, and Datagrid secured approvals and a Mercury power option for its Southland campus in March 2026.
The market is shifting from general-purpose 25G and 100G fabrics towards 400G and 800G designs built for GPU clusters, with optical links and automation software rising fastest. Ethernet switches remain the largest product line, while colocation operators generate the broadest base of purchases. Hyperscale and cloud builds advance quickest, and the highest speeds grow from a very small base. Auckland remains the largest region because the main campuses and cloud capacity sit there, and Waikato grows fastest as edge sites and new carrier-neutral facilities open beyond the largest city. Sovereign hosting, consenting reform and grid access will decide how quickly proposed campuses are built, but the direction of travel towards denser, faster and more automated networks is clear.

The Expert Market Research’s report on the New Zealand Data Center Networking Market offers a detailed analysis of the market based on the following segments.
Market Breakup by Product Type
Ethernet Switches lead on revenue, in our estimate, because every rack, leaf and spine layer needs them, and Extreme Networks became the first networking vendor with EPEAT-listed switches in March 2026, which may help in sustainability-focused tenders. Optical Interconnects grow fastest at an estimated 14.6% CAGR through 2035, helped by Cisco's 400G bidirectional optics due in the second half of 2025. Routers serve edge, peering and trans-Tasman links. SDN and Network Management Software gains as Broadcom launched VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 in May 2026. Others include load balancers and security appliances.

Competition combines global network vendors, local integrators and the data center operators that specify equipment. Entry barriers include vendor certifications, channel reach, operator relationships, sovereign hosting requirements, supply of high-speed optics and the engineering skills needed to run automated fabrics.
Cisco Systems
Cisco Systems, headquartered in San Jose, California, supplies Nexus switching, Silicon One routing silicon, optics and Nexus Dashboard management to New Zealand operators and enterprises through its partner channel. In June 2025 it said it had passed its annual target of USD 1 billion in AI infrastructure orders from hyperscale customers, and it introduced 400G bidirectional optics and Nexus Hyperfabric AI. Its G200-based switches also support NVIDIA Spectrum-X, a design suited to emerging AI builds.
Datacom Group
Datacom Group, an Auckland-headquartered technology services company, runs data centers and designs network and cloud infrastructure for government and enterprise clients across New Zealand. In April 2026 it bought T4 NZ Data Centres' 5,200 square metre Auckland site, lifting it to five data centers and more than NZ$200 million of committed investment. The facility offers about 500 rack spaces and is being upgraded for liquid-cooled, AI-ready workloads.
TenPeaks Data Centres
TenPeaks Data Centres is the standalone company created when Spark sold 75% of its data center business to Pacific Equity Partners, completed in February 2026 and led by chief executive Michael Stribling. It operates 11 facilities across Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Christchurch and edge locations, with 23 MW live and a pipeline above 130 MW. Planned extensions at Takanini and a North Shore greenfield site will require new fabrics and interconnection.
CDC Data Centres
CDC Data Centres, based in Canberra and with Infratil as a major shareholder, operates the Silverdale and Hobsonville campuses in Auckland. Its March 2026 investor presentation reported completed work at the Hobsonville HV2 building and NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center certification across its sites. In October 2025 it announced a partnership with Firmus Technologies and NVIDIA in Australia, signalling AI-ready network designs that Auckland halls can follow.
Other players operating in the New Zealand data center networking market include Arista Networks, NVIDIA, Juniper Networks, Nokia, and Extreme Networks, alongside Dell Technologies, Huawei, other local integrators, carrier-neutral operators and channel partners supplying switches, optics and automation tools to operators, enterprises and public sector buyers across New Zealand.
Competition rests on vendor certifications, channel reach, operator relationships and access to high-speed optics rather than price alone, while ownership changes among operators could reshape purchasing patterns.
