The New Zealand data center rack market covers the enclosures and rack-level hardware that hold servers, storage and network equipment in colocation halls, hyperscale cloud regions, enterprise server rooms and edge sites. It includes server racks and cabinets, rack power distribution units, hot and cold aisle containment, and cable management and accessories. Because the country has only a few large campuses, spending is concentrated in Auckland and tied closely to each new hall that opens.
In 2025, the market is valued at USD 48.00 million and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 12.50%, reaching USD 155.87 million by 2035. Growth is driven by the Amazon Web Services Auckland region launched in September 2025, the carve-out of TenPeaks Data Centres in February 2026 and the move towards racks built for high-density and liquid-cooled computing.

2026-2035
The New Zealand data center rack market is expanding from a small, enterprise-led base into one shaped by hyperscale cloud, colocation and artificial intelligence. Racks are no longer passive steel frames, because buyers now specify power metering, containment, rear-door cooling and weight ratings for dense computing.
Three forces are shaping the market: hyperscale arrivals such as the Amazon Web Services region in Auckland; a large pipeline of colocation capacity, with TenPeaks Data Centres holding more than 130 MW of development land; and rising rack density, which favors taller, deeper racks, smarter power distribution and liquid cooling readiness.
In March 2026 Datagrid secured resource consent for a Southland campus of up to 280 MW, and in July 2026 the Prime Minister said the government was drafting principles for hyperscale operators, including a requirement for new power generation. Both signals point to sustained but more tightly governed rack demand.
The market is moving from standard air-cooled cabinets towards taller, deeper racks with intelligent power distribution, containment and liquid cooling provisions for artificial intelligence workloads. Server racks and cabinets lead in value because every new hall needs them, while rack power distribution units grow fastest as metering and higher loads become standard. Racks of 48U and above and hyperscale and cloud deployments advance quickest, with colocation remaining the largest customer base. Auckland remains the largest region, and areas beyond the main cities grow fastest as power-secured campuses take shape. Grid rules, additional generation requirements and renewable supply will influence timing, but the shift in specification looks structural rather than cyclical.
