2026-2035
The Australia water treatment chemicals market is shaped by regulated demand. Utilities must meet the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines every day, and industrial users must treat process and effluent water, so volumes follow plant throughput and compliance rather than discretionary spending.
Three forces are shaping demand: tighter PFAS values issued by the National Health and Medical Research Council in June 2025; a wave of desalination and recycled water plants in Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales; and concern over single-source supply of chlorine.
In April 2026, Victoria ordered 150 billion litres from its desalination plant, in June 2026 Water Corporation announced an A$81 million recycled water expansion at Kwinana, and in July 2026 Coogee announced a second drummed chlorine source for Queensland.
The market is moving from steady volume replacement towards compliance, desalination and reuse-led demand. Municipal drinking water leads revenue today because every utility doses coagulants, disinfectants and pH chemicals daily, while municipal wastewater and recycling advances fastest as industrial reuse schemes and nutrient limits add treatment steps. Corrosion and scale inhibitors grow strongly from a smaller base as reverse osmosis plants multiply, and seawater and brackish sources gain share as desalination capacity is built. New South Wales remains the largest region, and Western Australia builds fastest as desalination, recycling and mining projects proceed together. Secure bulk chlorine supply and PFAS removal reward suppliers with logistics depth and technical service.
