2026-2035
The Australia EV charging equipment market is at a structural turning point. Home wallboxes and a few highway sites historically dominated, but EV sales that hit a record near 16% in June 2025 and 25.8% across the first half of 2026 have made high-power public and kerbside charging commercially essential.
Three forces are shaping the market: the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, in force from January 2025 with penalties from July 2025; a federal allocation of AUD 40 million for regional and kerbside charging; and the shift to 400 kW chargers with networked energy management.
In August 2025, Tesla opened a 20-stall V4 hub at Goulburn, followed in March 2026 by construction starting on a 24-bay bp pulse hub at Melbourne Airport. In October 2026, Ampol agreed to buy Evie Networks for AUD 225 million.
The market is moving from home wallboxes and sparse highway sites towards a networked, high-power public and fleet charging base. AC chargers lead revenue because home, workplace and kerbside installations dominate unit volumes, while DC fast chargers grow fastest, led by the CCS Combo connector, with Western Australia advancing quickest and New South Wales remaining the largest state.
